If you, like many others, use your mobile phone whilst driving, you should be ever more aware of the increase in the penalties.
Mobile phones are used and relied upon heavily in our day to day lives, from taking and making phone calls to giving us directions. However, simply clicking on your phone to alter your sat nav when lost in traffic or sending a text message when stopped at traffic lights may seem harmless but are criminal offences.
The fixed penalty for using a mobile phone whilst driving has increased to £200 and the penalty points have increased to six. Once a driver accumulates twelve penalty points they will usually be disqualified as a totter. However, the impact is more severe for a new driver whose licence will be revoked if they receive six penalty points and they will have to re-take their driving test.
